uh... wait I guess people wont be able to say stop the presses in the near future, but whatever..

I'm growing quinoa. The mid summer beets have been jettisoned. I may plant some in another part of the garden.

It was gorgeous yesterday, I was weeding

so today.. garlic mustard pasta and later next week.. Garlic Mustard Mashed Potatoes (same page, sans pork of course).

what better way to battle invasive plants than EAT THEM :)

ah.. yeah. "stop the presses" will soon mean nothing. oh well. it'll be one of those "remember when" things.

tonight my daughter and i watched "you have mail." you know, tom hanks, meg ryan. year was 2005. how odd! they went through a dial-up modem, the whole sound thing, and then incredibly, slowly connected to AOL's antique mail server. weird!

i am SO happy that i once again have taste for garlic! just renewed after 10 years. i hadn't been able to stand the smell ever since i got pregnant, but somehow it has suddenly changed and i love it again. :)

The quinoa didn't work out :(

it never sprouted. I had planted it in mid April and covered it with a garden cloth.. I think it's just too cool here in Connecticut (I'm in the NW corner on the border of zones 5 and 6)

how did the quinoa work out for you? I love the stuff! I was growing it more as an experiment than anything else (and it's a pretty plant)

my partner is also experimenting and trying them for the first time. he got seed from a seed company (salt spring seeds), planted them in mid april in ottawa, canada, and first week of may in southern ontario near toronto. he seeded them directly. the latter ones are 2-3 inches now. he says they're meant for cooler and dryer weather (they originate from the andes after all), but they seem to be fine with all the rain we've gotten here.
