LJ is not being bitchy

The problem started with DDoS attacks on Alexei Navalny, who has used his blog to talk about corruption in the government and the ruling United Russia party, said Maria Garnayeva, an expert at Internet security company Kaspersky Lab, who posted information about the attack on her blog.

Navalny started targeting United Russia earlier this year calling them "the party of swindlers and thieves" which turned into an Internet meme. Shortly after, spammers started inundating all of his posts with derogatory comments.

So...at least we now know what was causing all the fuss and feathers...
I'm still not real happy about having been shut out of LJ for almost two whole days.

I was getting a lot of "Connection Timed Out" messages, but once I'd get into LJ I'd get a lot of error messages. Refreshing the page or just back-buttoning and then hitting the forward arrow took care of that fairly easily.
Erm.."takes care of that," make it. It's not completely cleared up.

Did you see the speculation that these attacks are intended to drive LJ users to Dreamwidth or Facebook or other venues? That seems *possible,* even plausible. (Ah, but can it be ascertained?)
