Antivaxxers should be tried as terrorists. I'm talking rounded up and shipped off to Gitmo.

I don't care what your personal beliefs are regarding vaccines, but if it puts PEOPLE I KNOW IN DANGER because of allergies or their age, yes it's a problem

RRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE

It's been scary to hear about some of the pockets of preventable disease popping up in developed countries, including our own, due to anti-vaxers. I won't say more than that...but the whole thing makes me face-palm.

They believe - incorrectly - that vaccines cause autism. How many people of our generation have had autism? Meanwhile, the so called doctor who was spreading this BS has just proven to be a fraud and that his research was bogus. Yet anti-vax will still keep their heads in the clouds.

Years ago, *maybe* Polio and the like was wiped out here in the US. However society is much more mobile now then it was years ago, which means these diseases can/will come back because of the false fear of autism.

They also need beat with a clue by four if they believe Jenny McCarthy.

I don't believe that vaccines cause autism, nor do I take medical advice from Jenny McCarthy. I'm not an anti-vaxxer, but I do believe in delaying vax and not blindly following the AAP schedule for my child. For example, I do not see the validity in vaccinating a newborn infant with Hep B, which is primarily transmitted sexually or by illicit drug use. I question the interests of the pharmaceutical companies, and the risks of negative reactions (not autism) versus the risk of catching certain diseases. (If a child is not in daycare and breastfed to age 2 and beyond, s/he will be in a much more low risk group.) Certain vaccines can be more effective the older the child is and they as a result need fewer doses to be protected. Dr. Jim Sears is a leading expert on childhood vaccines, and his book (which in the end encourages vaccinating but on more flexible terms), has been a guideline for me.

That being said, pertussis is considered a problem here in CA, so that is first on my agenda to vaccinate for when I start daughter sometime this year. I do sometimes feel things are blown out of proportion in the media, when the news is screaming about 300 cases in a state of over 30 million people.

I am college educated, was vaccinated myself as a child (including a Japanese TB shot that now causes me to fail TB skin tests and left scarring on my arm), and understand the concept of herd immunity. But I also believe that as a parent, I have a right to educate myself on what material is being injected into my child, and make decisions accordingly.

I agree. Well, maybe not the Gitmo part, but certainly I think it's really irresponsible to spread nonsense about vaccines. What triggered this post?

Anyway, thank you for teaching me the word 'antivaxxer' :-)

No one has to get a shot.

They just can't play with others. They can't use public schools, or parks or transportation. They wanna die like the Martians from War of the World? Then do it far away from me.
