Oscar was having trouble and none of the meds (lactulose)/pumpkin/metamucil were working

this really did the trick

I suppose I'll give it a shot when I'm really old and constipated
(he's going to be 19 in December/January)

Oh wow, acupuncture fixed his constipation? Was this a one-time fixit or a treatment series that made it better on an ongoing basis?

(I'm speaking as someone with a kitty who's had chronic constipation pretty much forever.)

Oscar was very antsy the second time in (he was feeling better). Ideally it would be a four to five time treatment, but the vet said the more he squirms. the less effective the acupuncture.

I did get some herbs that really are keeping things moving, his stool was like hard powdery clay at one point and as I mentioned, not even the pumpkin/lactulose/metamucil was working :(

I was away for a week visiting my folks and I suspect my husband 'treated' Oscar to some dry food

Have you tried pumpkin for your cat? My fellow took it okay for a while but now he's completely disgusted by it and avoids it like the plague. It really is good stuff, though, if you can get them to eat it

Yeah, Dinah won't touch pumpkin. I tried and tried but she just gave me this look, wouldn't even sniff it. The vet suggested a pinch of Metamucil, but it disagreed with her system or something and she had the runs for days. It was unpleasant for everyone, especially the carpet.

What are the herbs you're using?

poor kitty! the runs are uncomfortable for humans AND cats, I'd imagine!

I got the herbs from the vet (the acupuncture guy is a DVM). It's something called Ba Zheng San and Dang Gui Cong Rong Tang

You are so good to that cat! :) I got acupuncture myself a few times (for headaches) and I absolutely loved it. Does she ever seem to calm down and bliss out, or is she dying to get out of there the whole time?

poor Oscar the first time he was a really good patient

but the second time he was all antsy

he was feeling alot better though, so he put up a fuss

we're going back on Friday

I sent this picture to my friend, her 8 year old goes for acupuncture for his allergies. He told me this doesnt count and I said 'why because Oscar's a cat?' and Josh told me NO THE DOCTOR IS NOT CHINESE (the vet is Polish, he immigrated to the US in the 80s)

acupuncture?? wow i wish i would've known about that during my struggles with smokey! seems the only thing that helps him with his problem is a bit of miralax mixed in his food. lactulose didn't do anything, and extra fiber made him worse! glad oscar is feeling better!

the DVM I go to has people coming from ALL OVER, there were folks from Long Island in the waiting room with a dog when I was there.

The Miralax and pumpkin got Oscar so far but then it sort of stopped working, so I figured I'd give this a try

Oscar doesn't have megacolon or anything, hes just a senior with pooper issues (he's going on 19 soon) but has no other problems, really
